i am currently considering a scenario involving a small set (say, 2 for now) of winflector server machines plus one winflector server machine that's going to act as the farm manager or load balancer.

(1) i wonder if you could confirm that the load balancer machine is the only machine that i need to expose to the internet, since this load balancer machine will take care of distributing client requests to other winflector server machines connected to it within the same LAN

(2) is it possible for the load balancer machine to be using the free limited to two concurrent users per server software during initial testing?

(3) what are the pro's and con's of the setup mentioned in (1) compared to a setup involving just two independent winflector servers each of which is independently exposed to the internet (so no need for a third machine to act as a load balancer)? one negative i can think of for the no load balancer set up is that i need to expose two ports to the internet vs one for just the load balancer setup, but there are three potential positives for the non-farmed setup: it would be sufficient for each machine to just use the free-limited-to-2-concurrent-users-per-server license since my users will be in and out quickly; easier adminstration; and the two server machines can still be the mutual backup for the other. any tips or recommendation for thinking about these two potential scenarios?

thank you for any help!

You do not need separate machine for load balancer. One of farm members acts as farm manager and load balancer simultaneously (it must be licensed and activated server). As the second farm member you have to use free 2-users server.

All machines should be exposed to the internet. Client connects to any of farm members, then the server asks farm manager about load balancing and the client is accepted on the first server or is informed that should connect to another server.

When using farm instead of two independent server you have load balancing feature and user accounts and application definitions in one place. Of course you have to install applications in the same folders on all farm members.
